That's about it. Add in the fact that I'm a 17 year old fail of a female with an ever-hungry tummy and the problem starts to present itself. I live in a house with my sister, mother, father, grandfather, and grandmother. Dear Nana makes pretty much every family meal and she does it well, though she only has about 25 recipe's in her mental cookbook. Meaning meals get repeated often, and I'm starting to become unexcited with food. Which is bad.
So I've made up my random little mind. Starting with Japanese cuisine, I'm going to learn how to cook. First, I will explain, why Japanese.
It's all new to me. Outside of Ramen and Sushi, I know nothing. I've never even had miso soup. So this will all be fresh and new taste for me. Still, why Japanese? Why not another country with food I know nothing about? I'm not Japanese, I have no Asian ancestry at all, but I have always been fascinated by Japanese culture ever since I was a little girl. It makes me sad that I can be so fascinated with a culture know so little about their food! If you believe in Andrew Zimmern, you feel the best way to connect with a nation is through its food, so Japanese cuisine, here I come!
So let us look at my game plan.
There is no game plan.
I'm starting with desert. Basically because a lot of this desert doesn't involve a lot of sharp objects and open flames. My first subject? Azuki Shiratama followed by maybe Daifuku.
Azuki shiratama are quite simply dumplings made from shiratama-ko (glutinous rice flower) served with anko, a sweet red bean paste made form Azuki beans. It is generally eaten during the summer. Recipe calls for water, glutinous rice flower, and anko. I will be buying my anko premade, as it takes hours to make, and I would not like to commit a 12 hour failfood suicide. And be left with anko-less Shiratama dumplings. That is not the goal. So I'll be cracking open a can of lazy on this one.
I do not have the ingredients currently, but I hope to acquire them soon. I'm jobless and moneyless right now, so I will be getting most of my ingredients via the internet, but in time I'm quite sure the process will move a little faster.
So cross your fingers for me!
Here we go!
